Shivering World – Kathy Tyers

Shivering World (Tyers, Kathy) Shivering World by Kathy Tyers

My review

rating: 3 of 5 stars
Kathy Tyers is an excellent writer, and it shows through in this book. I will admit that I enjoyed her Firebird series much more. That said, only a few pages into this one I was hooked. The plot is very intriguing and the characters are very engaging. It is definitely a Christian book with a Christian world view, but never overly so. I understand that this book was first written for a secular audience, and this edition is her rewrite for the Christian publishing field (i.e. Christian bookstores and audience). I am slightly curious as to how it read in the original, more “secular” version.

As can be seen in her Star Wars books, Tyers is a consummate science fiction writer. My only real complain here is that the book ended so suddenly. I felt that there were about four or five plot lines which were developed over the course of the narration, and yet only one was really resolved. Of course, most of the other plot lines hint at how they will probably be resolved in the future of the characters, but there isn’t anything definite.

In the end, this is definitely a book I would recommend to any fan of the genre, especially any Christian looking for a solid sci-fi book. But I would probably recommend her Firebird books first.
